Shri Radha Raman Mandir is one of the most ancient and revered temples in Vrindavan. It is counted among the seven main temples of Vrindavan, along with Radha Vallabh, Radha Damodar, and others . The name "Radha Raman" means "the lover of Radha" – the one who gives pleasure to Srimati Radha .
The story of this temple is truly special. It was established over 500 years ago by Gopala Bhatta Goswami around 1542 AD .
Gopala Bhatta came to Vrindavan at the age of 30. After Chaitanya Mahaprabhu left this world, he felt very sad and separated from the Lord. One night, the Lord told him in a dream, "If you want to see Me, go to Nepal" .
In Nepal, Gopala Bhatta bathed in the Kali-Gandaki River. When he dipped his water pot in the river, several Shaligram Shilas (sacred stones) entered his pot. He tried to drop them back, but they kept coming back. He found twelve such Shilas and brought them to Vrindavan .
One night, after offering prayers, he covered the Shilas with a basket and went to rest. The next morning, when he uncovered them, he saw only eleven Shilas – and instead of the twelfth, there stood a beautiful deity of Krishna playing the flute .
The Damodara Shila had transformed into the three-fold bending form of Tribhangananda Krishna. This is the deity worshipped in the temple today, which has a mystical smile on its face .
The temple is beautifully crafted in Rajasthani style and located in the narrow lanes of Old Vrindavan .
